How to choose a typeface response

I have always had an interest in poster and magazine layouts. Other than the overall cover photo or image, typography plays a major role in the layout and mood of these works so I am happy to start learning more about the complexity of choosing the right font. However, it is a bit overwhelming as I was not aware of all of the elements that went into choosing a font let alone creating your own! Choosing the appropriate font when it comes to design intent, aesthetics, and mood may come easily to me over time. With so many to choose from it will definitely be best if I learn how to trust my gut, as this is a skill all artists must learn how to do. Although when it comes to legibility and readability, specifically when creating your own font, I believe this will be the hardest for me to learn as there is so much that goes into it. If there is one thing I did learn about my own style of font (if I were to create one right now) it is that I do not like excessive ornamentations, specifically the example given of tobin tax. As we start to create our own text I will need to look into more examples of the different typefaces and fonts to see what is legible versus what is not.
